Q & A:

Name, state department or agency.

Shannon Walling, Department of Motor Vehicles

What do you enjoy most about working with the OP campaign?

I enjoy the opportunity to get out and meet my fellow state workers, learn about their agencies and educate them on the Our Promise Campaign and why it’s so important to give back.

How long have you been involved in or volunteered with the campaign?

This is my first year being involved, however, I have been a contributor for years.

What inspires you to give through the campaign?

With this opportunity of being a Leader United, I have learned so much about the various non-profits and their missions.  It inspires me to continue to find ways to give back financially and by volunteering.

What nonprofits do you donate time or funds to, and why?

I am an animal lover and choose to donate to non-profits to help animals who are in shelters waiting to go to their “forever” homes.

What has been your favorite part about this experience so far?

My favorite part of this experience so far has been visiting and learning about the many different nonprofits and their missions.

What are you looking forward to gaining as part of Leaders United?

This year, the Leaders United program has instituted a leadership series component.  I appreciate and look forward to learning more from the speakers and events.

What advice can you give to your fellow state employees who want to get involved?

My advice to someone looking for ways to get involved would be to identify your passion, then research to find a non-profit that fits your passion and then simply contribute through payroll deduction.

Any other comments you’d like to add?

I am thankful to my management for choosing me to be a part of this awesome campaign and program and to the Our Promise staff and my fellow Leaders United for being a great team to work with and get to know.
