Q & A:

Name, state department or agency.

Kathy Darling, Department of State Hospitals, under Health and Human Services Agency

What do you enjoy most about working as a Loaned Executive on the OP campaign?

I have really enjoyed working with the other loaned executives, the Our Promise Team and getting to know the United Way staff as well. I have also enjoyed going out to all the different State departments and meeting with their executives and the Campaign Chairs and Key Connectors.

How long have you been involved in or volunteered with the campaign?

This is my first exposure in being involved in the campaign other than being a donor in the past.

What inspires you to give through the campaign?

I used to give directly to causes and emergencies throughout each year, but working here has given me a different perspective and this year and going forward, I am donating through payroll deduction.

What nonprofits do you donate time or funds to, and why?

I am donating to the Yolo Hospice this year as they have provided me and my family the opportunity to bring my husband home from the hospital to live his remaining days in the comfort of his home with his family and friends by his side. Without this service, he would have passed away in the hospital and I am so grateful that he could enjoy his final days the way he did. Not only am I donating through payroll deduction now for Yolo Hospice, but his golf course and friends put on a memorial golf tournament in his honor and we raised $4,000 for Yolo Hospice. It will became an annual event and my hope is to raise that much and more each year.

Any other comments you’d like to add?

I appreciate the opportunity I had to be a part of the Our Promise Campaign.
